BMW G60 5 Series Parts & Modifications

Because the i5 M60 is electric, the focus moves away from engine work to styling, interior and chassis details. Carbon spoilers, mirror caps and trim are popular, as are paddle shifters, wheel spacers and upgraded wheel bolts. Its weight and 601PS make brake pads and fresh high-temperature fluid worthwhile for enthusiastic drivers. It depends on the model. BMW fits rear-axle air suspension with self-levelling as standard to the i5 and the plug-in hybrids, so conventional lowering springs do not apply at the rear and any lowering needs parts designed for that air system. Steel-sprung combustion models are more straightforward. On every model, have a full alignment after any ride-height change to protect tyres and stability.

Very few do. The G60 is a new generation with different bodywork, lights, interior, electronics and chassis details, so styling and interior parts from the G30 or G31 will not carry over, and even many service items differ. The petrol and plug-in hybrid models can be tuned, but they are newer and more complex than earlier 5 Series. Their engine computers are locked from the factory and need specialist unlocking, and the hybrid system adds another layer of software to consider. As most G60s are still under the BMW warranty, weigh up the risk of a claim being declined for a fault linked to tuning before going ahead.

All G60 plug-in models use a Type 2 connector for AC charging. The i5 charges at up to 11kW as standard, with 22kW available as an option, so choose a cable rated for three-phase charging if your car and charger support it. The 530e and 550e plug-in hybrids charge at up to 7.4kW. A longer cable can make home and public charging much easier.

In the UK, fitting aftermarket parts does not automatically void the whole BMW warranty, but BMW can decline a claim for a fault it links to a modification. Styling, interior and wheel accessories carry little risk, while software and electrical changes deserve more caution on such a new, technology-heavy car.
