BMW tuning in the UK with R44 Performance
R44 Performance is a BMW performance specialist based in Wembley, London. In partnership with Tom Wrigley Performance in Oswestry, we offer complete Stage 1 and Stage 2 ECU remapping packages for BMW M cars, with the hardware supplied and fitted by us.
Which BMWs can be tuned?
- BMW M5 G90 / G99: 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid (S68)
- BMW M3 / M4 G80, G81, G82, G83: Stage 1 570–590 whp, Stage 2 610–630 whp at the wheels (S58)
- BMW M2 G87: Stage 1 up to 680 bhp, Stage 2 up to 780 bhp at the flywheel (S58)
- BMW M240i G42: Stage 1 up to 400 hp, Stage 2 up to 500 bhp at the wheels (B58)
What is ECU remapping?
ECU remapping changes the software that controls your engine, such as boost, fuelling and ignition timing, to release more power and torque. On modern BMWs the engine and gearbox control units are locked from the factory, so every R44 package includes the ECU unlock and a matching gearbox remap.
Bespoke tuning, not a generic file
Each car is mapped by Tom Wrigley Performance for its exact hardware and logged on the dyno and on the road before and after, with a printout of the results. Maps are built within strict safety parameters.
Tuning for drivers across England and Wales
Customers drop their cars at R44 HQ in Wembley, London, or directly at Tom Wrigley Performance in Oswestry, Shropshire, from across England and Wales.
BMW tuning FAQs
How much does BMW tuning cost at R44?
Packages include the ECU unlock, Tom Wrigley Performance software and a gearbox tune. Prices start from £2,649.99 for the G42 M240i, £2,820 for the G90/G99 M5, £3,410.99 for the G87 M2 and £3,411.39 for the G80–G83 M3/M4. Stage 2 hardware is priced separately in the configurator.
What's the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2?
Stage 1 is a software-only tune for a standard car. Stage 2 is a more aggressive tune designed for upgraded exhaust hardware: midpipes on the M5, and downpipes plus a midpipe on the M3/M4, M2 and M240i.
Which BMWs do you tune?
We currently offer Stage 1 and Stage 2 packages for the BMW G90/G99 M5, G80/G81 M3, G82/G83 M4, G87 M2 and G42 M240i. If your car isn't listed, talk to a Build Consultant and we'll let you know what's possible.
Where do I drop my car off?
Either at R44 HQ in Wembley, London, where we fit your hardware and transport the car to Tom Wrigley Performance and back for £500, or directly at Tom Wrigley Performance in Oswestry, where your hardware is fitted and the car is tuned on site.
Is hardware fitting included in the price?
Hardware fitting labour is quoted separately. Once you've ordered, we'll contact you to confirm the labour cost and book your drop-off date.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a remap?
Yes. An ECU remap and exhaust changes are modifications, so you should declare them to your insurer before driving the car.
Are midpipes and downpipes road legal in the UK?
In the UK, midpipes and downpipes are not road legal if they remove a catalytic converter or petrol particulate filter (OPF) or breach noise regulations. You are responsible for ensuring your setup is legal for your intended use.
