BMW M135i pre-LCI F20/F21 Parts, Modifications & Accessories
The BMW M135i in pre-LCI form was built from 2012 to 2015 as the F20 five-door and F21 three-door hatchback, and was one of BMW's first M Performance models. It uses the 3.0-litre N55 straight-six with a single twin-scroll turbocharger, making 320PS (316bhp) and 450Nm from 1,300rpm, with drive to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or ZF eight-speed automatic. A rear-drive, six-cylinder hatchback is a rare thing, which is why the early M135i remains such a popular base for a build.
The chassis rewards careful work. Coilovers and suspension from KW, BC Racing and HARDRACE tighten body control and let you set ride height and alignment properly, while MMX and Ultra Racing strut braces sharpen turn-in. The open rear differential is the car's main limitation when driven hard, so many owners plan a limited-slip differential alongside suspension changes. If you intend to remap the N55, replace the plastic charge pipe first: it is the engine's best-known weak point once boost is raised.
Inside, the F20 cabin is easy to make your own. Steering wheels from MHC PLUS, MOMO and Bimecc, SHFT paddle shifters and gear selectors for the eight-speed auto, and Tillett Racing Seats for track use all improve the driving position, while Maxton Design and Zaero Design aero parts give the exterior a sharper stance.
