Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is a high-performance 100% synthetic, fuel-economy engine oil developed for modern petrol and diesel engines requiring a low-friction, low-HTHS and Mid-SAPS lubricant. Carrying BMW Longlife-12 FE (LL-12 FE) approval and meeting the ACEA C2 standard, it is an ideal servicing oil for compatible BMW engines requiring this specific specification.
The advanced 0W-30 formulation combines an HTHS viscosity of at least 2.9 mPa·s with controlled levels of sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur. This helps reduce internal friction while maintaining engine protection and compatibility with modern emissions-control equipment, including diesel particulate filters (DPF) and catalytic converters.

BMW Longlife-12 FE Approved
One of the most important features of Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is its BMW Longlife-12 FE approval.
BMW LL-12 FE is a manufacturer-specific, fuel-efficiency-focused engine oil specification used by selected BMW petrol and diesel engines. It should not be confused with other commonly encountered BMW approvals such as LL-01, LL-04, LL-17 FE+ or LL-22 FE++.
Using the correct manufacturer approval is just as important as selecting the correct viscosity. Two oils may both carry a 0W-30 rating while meeting completely different BMW requirements.
If your BMW specifies Longlife-12 FE, Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 provides a fully synthetic lubricant carrying the appropriate BMW approval.
100% Synthetic 0W-30 Engine Oil
Motul has developed 8100 ECO-CLEAN around the requirements of modern engines where reducing friction and improving efficiency are increasingly important.
Its 0W-30 viscosity provides strong cold-start fluidity while maintaining an SAE 30 viscosity at normal operating temperatures.
The 0W cold-viscosity rating allows the lubricant to circulate rapidly during start-up, helping oil reach critical engine components quickly. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the oil continues to provide the lubrication required by compatible engines designed around this viscosity and specification.
The result is an engine oil designed to combine fuel efficiency, engine protection and emissions-system compatibility.
Fuel Economy & Low-Friction Formulation
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is specifically designed for manufacturers requiring a Fuel Economy lubricant.
Its low-friction characteristics and relatively low HTHS viscosity help reduce the amount of energy lost through internal engine friction and oil pumping.
The oil has an HTHS viscosity of at least:
≥2.9 mPa·s
This characteristic forms an important part of its ACEA C2 performance profile.
As with any low-HTHS engine oil, it should only be used where the vehicle manufacturer permits the corresponding specification. A lower-viscosity fuel-economy oil should not be substituted into an engine requiring a different approval simply because the SAE viscosity appears suitable.
ACEA C2 Mid-SAPS Technology
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN meets the ACEA C2 specification and uses a Mid-SAPS formulation.
SAPS refers to:
- Sulphated Ash
- Phosphorus
- Sulphur
Motul specifies maximum levels of:
Sulphated Ash: ≤0.8%
Phosphorus: ≤0.09%
Sulphur: ≤0.3%
Controlling these components is particularly important for modern engines equipped with sophisticated exhaust after-treatment systems.
The formulation allows Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN to combine the required lubrication characteristics with compatibility for modern emissions-control equipment.
DPF Compatible Diesel Engine Oil
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is suitable for compatible modern diesel engines equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
DPFs capture particulate matter produced during diesel combustion. While accumulated soot can be removed through regeneration, certain non-combustible deposits originating from engine oil can remain within the filter.
Using an appropriate Mid-SAPS lubricant helps limit the amount of sulphated ash entering the exhaust after-treatment system.
For diesel vehicles requiring an ACEA C2 and/or BMW LL-12 FE 0W-30 oil, Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN provides the required combination of engine lubrication and DPF compatibility.
Suitable for Modern Petrol Engines
Despite its DPF compatibility, Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN isn't exclusively a diesel engine oil.
It is also suitable for compatible petrol engines where the manufacturer requires an ACEA C2, BMW LL-12 FE or other specification explicitly covered by this lubricant.
The Mid-SAPS formulation is compatible with catalytic converters, making it suitable for modern emissions-controlled petrol engines where its specifications are approved.
Always check the vehicle manufacturer's required oil approval before ordering.
Euro 4, Euro 5 & Euro 6 Applications
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN has been developed for compatible latest-generation petrol and diesel engines meeting:
- Euro 4
- Euro 5

emissions regulations.
However, the vehicle's emissions standard alone does not determine engine oil compatibility.
Not every Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 engine uses the same lubricant. The required viscosity and manufacturer approval should always take priority when selecting engine oil.
BMW Compatibility
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is particularly relevant for BMW vehicles requiring BMW Longlife-12 FE engine oil.
BMW has used numerous different oil specifications across its petrol and diesel engine ranges, so compatibility should be determined by the specific engine, production date and required BMW approval, rather than simply by chassis code.
If your vehicle specifies:
BMW Longlife-12 FE / LL-12 FE – SAE 0W-30
Motul 8100 ECO-CLEAN 0W-30 is an approved option.
Do not assume that this oil is suitable for every BMW simply because it carries a BMW approval or uses a common 0W-30 viscosity.
BMW LL-12 FE vs LL-04
BMW LL-12 FE and BMW Longlife-04 (LL-04) are different specifications and shouldn't be treated as interchangeable simply because both can be found in 0W-30 grades.
LL-04 is particularly well known for its widespread use in BMW diesel applications and is available across several viscosities.
LL-12 FE is a more application-specific Fuel Economy specification, designed around compatible engines requiring its particular low-friction characteristics.
If your vehicle specifies LL-04 rather than LL-12 FE, select an engine oil carrying the correct LL-04 approval.
BMW LL-12 FE vs LL-17 FE+ & LL-22 FE++
BMW's engine oil requirements have continued to evolve with newer engine generations.
Later BMW vehicles can specify oils including LL-17 FE+ and the ultra-low-viscosity LL-22 FE++, while older applications may require LL-01, LL-04 or other BMW standards.
These specifications should not be treated as universal replacements for one another.
For example, BMW LL-22 FE++ can be paired with extremely low-viscosity 0W-12 oils on certain latest-generation engines, whereas this Motul product is an 0W-30 LL-12 FE lubricant.
