BMW G80 M3 Parts & Modifications

Most experienced owners improve control and feel before adding power. Good tyres come first, followed by a valved cat-back exhaust for sound, then track-capable brake pads and fluid if you do circuit days. Height-adjustable springs or coilovers suit cars that are tracked regularly, as the factory adaptive suspension is already very good on the road. An ECU tune and supporting parts usually come later, once the chassis and brakes are ready for the extra performance.

The crank hub slip widely discussed on the previous F80 M3's S55 engine is not a recognised common failure on the S58, and the established aftermarket crank hub kits are made for the S55. Some engine guides still advise checking crank sensor faults on heavily modified, high-boost cars and confirming that any recall or updated parts have been applied. For a mildly modified road car, it is not something owners typically need to address.

The S58 is widely regarded as very strong. An ECU tune alone typically takes the car to around 570–600 bhp, and tuners commonly report 650 bhp or more on the standard turbos with supporting parts and good fuel. Higher ethanol blends need fuel system upgrades, such as a low-pressure pump or port injection, and the factory plastic charge pipes can crack under raised boost. Gains vary by tuner, fuel and climate.

Yes. Spring kits designed for the G80, including the M Performance height-adjustable set made by KW, are built to work with the factory electronically controlled dampers, so the drive modes continue to function. A full four-wheel alignment is needed after fitting, and the car takes a few hundred miles to settle. Coilovers give more adjustment for track use, but some replace the adaptive dampers and need the system to be coded out.

Many do. The M3 and M4 share the S58 engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension and much of the front end, so intakes, cooling parts, exhausts, springs and many front splitters and rear diffusers are sold for both. Doors, rear quarters and boot spoilers differ between the saloon and the coupé, and some parts are specific to xDrive or rear-wheel-drive cars. Modifying a car does not automatically void the whole warranty, but BMW can decline a claim for a fault it believes was caused by an aftermarket part. Engine tuning is the most sensitive area, as dealers can find evidence of altered software, while cosmetic parts rarely cause issues. All modifications should be declared to your insurer.
