BMW 335i F30 Parts, Modifications & Accessories

The BMW 335i (F30/F31/F34) uses the N55, a 2,979cc straight-six with a single twin-scroll turbocharger and Valvetronic, producing 306 PS (302 bhp) and 400 Nm. It was sold as a Saloon and Touring from 2012 to 2015, when the 340i replaced it, and in the Gran Turismo until 2016. Rear-wheel drive or xDrive, with a six-speed manual or eight-speed ZF automatic, it remains one of the most tunable cars of its era.

The N55's best-known weak point is its plastic charge pipe, which can split at the seam as boost rises, so an aluminium replacement is a sensible first step before any remap. Intakes, sports-cat downpipes and a larger intercooler support further gains, and heat management matters because the stock turbo is working hard at higher boost. MOTUL oils and fresh gaskets are worth adding, as oil filter housing and valve cover leaks are common at this age.

Chassis upgrades transform the car on the road. KW coilovers, MMX springs, and Powerflex and HARDRACE bushes tighten a chassis that can feel soft on early cars. The 335i already has 340mm four-piston front brakes, so Pagid and EBC pads and discs or a Bimecc big brake kit are the next steps for fast road and track use. MHC PLUS and MOMO steering wheels, paddle shifters and Tillett seats complete the cabin.

Fitment is listed on every product for the exact 335i body style and drivetrain. Save your car to My Garage to see only compatible parts, ask our team for build advice, and choose fitting at our Wembley workshop or express delivery worldwide.

335i (F30/F31/F34) FAQs

What are the best first mods for an F30 335i?

The most common starting point is an aluminium charge pipe, because the factory plastic pipe is a known failure point once boost is raised. After that, owners typically add an intake, uprated brake pads, and either lowering springs or coilovers. A remap is usually the next step, with a larger intercooler and sports-cat downpipe added for higher-stage software. Keep up with spark plugs, ignition coils and oil changes, as a healthy N55 responds far better to tuning.

Why does the N55 charge pipe fail?

The factory N55 charge pipe is plastic and tends to split at its seam as it ages and as boost increases with tuning. When it fails, the resulting boost leak usually puts the car into limp mode with a sudden loss of power. An aluminium charge pipe removes that weak point, and many also include a port for water-methanol injection. Check the listing for compatibility, as some pipes differ between rear-wheel drive and xDrive cars.

How much power can the stock N55 turbo handle?

The single twin-scroll turbo on the F30 335i is the main limit rather than the engine block. Software alone with supporting bolt-ons typically takes the car well beyond factory output, and ethanol blends or methanol injection add more. Beyond that, owners move to an upgraded turbo along with fuel system work. The N55's internals are generally considered robust well above stock turbo power, but the eight-speed automatic and clutch on manual cars need to be considered as torque rises.

Does a downpipe need a tune on the 335i?

A sports-cat downpipe should be paired with software calibrated for it. Without a matching map, boost control can be affected and fault codes are common. Most N55 tuning platforms provide a Stage 2 map written for an upgraded downpipe and intake. In the UK, any exhaust change must keep the car compliant for the MOT and emissions rules, which is why a quality sports-cat downpipe is the appropriate choice for a road car.

What brakes does the 335i have, and how can I upgrade them?

The F30 335i has 340mm front discs with four-piston calipers as standard, an upgrade over the four-cylinder cars, and an optional M Sport brake package added 370mm front discs. For fast road use, performance pads and quality discs from Pagid or EBC, plus fresh high-temperature fluid, make a significant difference. For regular track work, a larger big brake kit improves heat capacity. On R44, each brake product lists the disc size it suits, and our team can confirm what your car has.

Are N55 oil leaks common on the 335i?

Yes, oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket leaks are among the most common age-related issues on the N55. Leaking oil can damage the auxiliary belt or drip onto the exhaust, so it is worth fixing promptly. Replacing gaskets is a good time to check charge pipe, intake and coolant hoses too. If you are unsure which gasket kit fits your 335i, save your car to My Garage at R44 or ask our team.
